Most famous as a founding member of Toronto’s famed beatnik-bop ensemble The Shuffle Demons, alto saxophone player Richard Underhill’s new album, Kensington Suites, shows he is a superb improviser who draws a delightfully warm tone out of his instrument. A gifted writer and arranger, this distinctive stylist won a Juno in 2003 for his solo debut CD, and continues to play and record with fervour and finesse, having performed and recorded with the likes of the Neville Brothers, Julius Hemphill, and Taj Mahal. William Carn trombone, David Restivo piano, Artie Roth bass and Sly Juhas drums
